    I was worried about whether or not my husband would know how to support me during labor. At the recommendation of my midwife, I reached out to Kathryn, and immediately felt like we were on the same page about birth. While my labor threw us for a loop, and ultimately Kathryn was unable to be with us due to hospital policy, she continued to be available to me, my husband, and my sister through the whole hospital stay. Postpartum, she became a friend - sitting and listening to me about my experience, processing it, and offering support, encouragement, and validation.

I remember calling Kathryn crying, because it was the longest I had ever been pregnant, and in the moment I thought I was going to be pregnant forever.   • No, a doula is meant to complement and enhance the support provided by your partner or family members, not replace it. Doulas are there to provide additional support and guidance for both you and your partner throughout the birth process.

    I have also been the sole support person for single mothers during pregnancy and birth. If you do not have a partner or other support person, a doula is a great addition to your birth team.

  • Doulas are not medical professionals and do not provide medical care. However, doulas can help you understand the options available to you and provide emotional and physical support throughout the process.

  • It's important to find a doula who you feel comfortable with and who shares your birth philosophy. If for any reason you or your partner don't feel comfortable with me, it's okay to look for another one! I’m also happy to give recommendations for other doulas that may be a better fit for you.

  • Birth plans can change for a variety of reasons, and doulas are there to support you no matter what happens during your pregnancy, labor, and birth. Your doula can help you adjust your expectations and provide support during unexpected situations.

  • Doulas work with people who have a wide range of birth preferences and experiences, including those who plan to have medical interventions or a cesarean birth. The role of a doula is to provide support and guidance throughout the birth process, regardless of the type of birth you have.

    I connect best with women who’s goal is to have a natural birth, but my goal is to empower and encourage you, and help you to make informed decisions, no matter how your birth plans change.
